Semester #1 Project

You are required to complete a long-term semester research project as a portion of your Term #2 grade.  This project is group-based in nature and will carry a presentation component as well.  The project will be structured in such a manner in which all group members are responsible for their individual portion of equal caliber.   Topics for the semester project are found below and all encompass the Fall Semester Project theme of “Current Issues in the US Macro Economy”.  Students are free to choose their own groups according to the guidelines in place, but are restricted to the choices below for topics.  All topics must be exhausted before a second group can select the same topic.

·            Current Environmental & Economic Impact of the Gulf Oil Disaster

 

·            Economic Critique of Obama Stimulus Package – Effects, Pros/Cons, 

 

·            A Study of Current Unemployment Crisis – Analysis, Impact and Remedies

 

·            Economic Critique of Obama Care on the Economy – Analysis, Impact, Pros/Cons

 

·            Current Economic Impact of Illegal Immigration Issue in America

 

·            US Crisis in Education – Economic Study on Funding Public Schools & Skyrocketing College Tuitions

Guidelines / Requirements:

1. No group can consist of more than 4 total members without teacher approval.  No one can work independently.

2. All members of the group must submit to the teacher a written proposal describing their individual contribution to the project – teacher approval must occur before proceeding.  (See proposal deadline date).

3. All groups must submit a typed report on their topic in a 3 ring binder, clearly labeled showing each person’s portion of the project.  Furthermore, a presentation medium must be included in the final grade, including but not limited to a power point presentation, oral presentation with adequate illustration / demonstration of the issues, customized handouts, etc.

4. Grading will be based on the rubric distributed in class, which factors organization, clarity, depth, visuals, division of labor, and accuracy.  Grade will be weighed as TWO TEST GRADES on Term # 2 average.

5. All groups are required to demonstrate diverse research by submitting their research sources and adhering to the following source requirements: - Six total sources minimum which must include at least:
       2 newspaper sources, 2 credible websites, 1 periodical or journal, 
       1 media outlet / media interview
       Project grade will suffer without a reaching the minimum 6 sources.

6. PLAGIARISM WILL BE PUNISHED WITH A ZERO ON THE ASSIGNMENT!!!!! I will check sources and any cut and paste of source materials or stealing of ideas without citation will be grounds for plagiarism charges send to WRHS Administration.  If you are unsure, ASK FIRST!!!

7. All members of the group must be actively involved in presentation component – (running the power point is not a sufficient role!)

8. Written portion must adhere to the following format:
_ Typed, Times New Roman Font, Size 12, Double-Spaced 
- Written portion under format above must be at least 10 full text                pages minimum.

Group Selection – Sept. 10th
Topic Selection – Sept 24th
Division of Labor Proposals – Oct. 22nd
Sources Check – Dec. 20th
Final Due Date and Presentations – Week of January 10th
